Prepare for your appointment

A consultation card holds what you want to say, in the order you want to say it. It stays private until you choose to share it.

Before your visit

Create a card

Your cards live in your account

A card is saved to an account rather than to this browser, so you can open it on the phone you take to the appointment. You can write one now and sign in when you save it.

After your visit

A card does not end at the appointment. Record what you understood, what is still unclear, and the next steps you agreed — while you still remember them.

Nothing here yet. A card moves to this list once you write something into it after the appointment.

Questions worth asking

Use these in a card

Four families of question that are easy to forget in the room — including what it will cost and who arranges the follow-up. Nothing here is pre-selected for you; take what is useful.

Understanding the explanation

For when you want the reasoning, not only the conclusion.

  • What do you think is causing this, and what else could it be?
  • Can you explain that in everyday words?
  • What does this test actually measure, and what will the result change?

Choices and trade-offs

For when more than one reasonable path exists.

  • What are my options, including doing nothing for now?
  • What are the common side effects, and which ones should worry me?
  • How long before I know whether this is working?

Costs and practicalities

Money and time are part of the decision. It is fair to ask.

  • What will this cost in total, including tests and follow-up visits?
  • Is a lower-cost alternative reasonable in my situation?
  • Is this covered by insurance or any government scheme?

Follow-up and warning signs

What happens after you leave the room.

  • What should I watch for that means I should come back sooner?
  • Who do I contact if something changes at night or on a weekend?
  • When should the next appointment be, and with whom?
